I
have been involved with ceramics for eighteen years. Twelve
of these were spent throwing domestic ware for Walcot
Pottery in Bath. For the last four years I have been the
Pottery Technician for Adult Learning at Frome Community
College, involved in running the Tiles Extra group/pottery
workshops for Connections Day Services, run workshops
for North East Somerset Arts and privately. I also produce
a wide range of pottery and clay items.
I
am interested in surface decoration, in detail and the
quality of the finished piece, whether it is from a batch
or a one off.
I
make a range of domestic ware, which includes chicken
eggcups, jugs, bowls, coffee cups, mugs and plates. These
come in several finishes. One has painted slip decoration,
which is glazed with a high-fired glaze, and the other
is a rich vibrant blue with subtle variations from the
kiln firing.
I
also make one off burnished pieces, mainly vases, which
are slip decorated, burnished, lustred and smoked and
finally polished. They are unglazed and have a tactile
eggshell surface quality beneath which lies a wispy smokiness.
Recently
I have been making hand sized chickens, trying to capture
their idiosyncrasies.
I also work to commission (anything considered).
