Catherine
grew up on the edge of Wiltshire's peaceful Salisbury
Plain, with its neolithic sites and chalk "white
horses". She studied art and music throughout school
and, during student holidays she worked at a gallery within
Avebury stone circle. After a degree she travelled in
Africa, working for a craft cooperative in Botswana. After
building up an early business career in London she moved
to Asia in 1996 and began to paint full time.
Catherine
has held three highly successful solo exhibitions in Singapore
and Malaysia and exhibited at numerous events. Now living
near Bath, she was most recently included in the Bath
Society of Artists' 2007 summer exhibition. Commissions
include British High Commission (Singapore), British Club
(Singapore), Asia-Europe Foundation, HSBC, Banc National
de Paris, Caltex, Lafarge, Reuters as well as private
individuals worldwide. Catherine is proud to have supported
several Asian charities with her sales as well as donating
designs and painting a mural for a Malaysian Elephant
Sanctuary.
Catherine
gravitates towards large, bright oils on canvas imbued
with strong, positive sunlight. But her work also spans
pencil portraits, pastels, pen and ink, bold watercolours
and crisp acrylics. Her subjects are varied and include
tropical botanical themes, a strong interest in heritage
architecture - she is known in asia for her studies of
Chinese and Indian shophouses and colonial bungalows.
More thoughtful moments produce atmospheric scenes such
as footprints on a deserted beach or a monk gazing from
the ruins of Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
