Catherine
Beale
Catherine is a Bath
based painter specialising in watercolour and oil portraits
of people and dogs. You can arrange a visit to her studio
to see photographs of her previous portraits and to discuss
commission ideas.
Catherine's painting
has been influenced by a decade living in tropical South
East Asia. They contain saturated hues and strong directional
light. Her drawing has been influenced by the exacting
life classes of Saied Dai RP at Bath Artist Studios.
Catherine's recent
portrait of Councillor Sarah Bevan, then Chair of Bath
& North East Somerset Council is being shown in the
Bath Society of Artists 2011 Summer Exhibition alongside
Catherine's watercolour portrait of her son Robbie. The
painting of Robbie was selected in March 2011 for the
Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours Annual Exhibition
at The Mall Galleries in London. The Butterfly House was
selected for the prestigious Holburne Portrait Prize 2010
for portraiture in the South West of England. Her painted
lion sculpture "Bullion" formed part of the
2010 Pride of Bath Lion project and was on display throughout
Summer 2010 in Queen's Square, Bath before being auctioned
at the Assembly Rooms by Don Foster MP.
While
living in Singapore and Malaysia (1996-2006) Catherine
became well known for her series of architectural prints
of shophouses and heritage buildings which are on sale
in galleries there. There she held three successful solo
exhibitions and clients included British High Commission
(painting gifted to HRH Prince Edward), British Club (Singapore),
American Embassy, HSBC, Banc National de Paris, Caltex,
Lafarge, Reuters, as well as private individuals worldwide.
