Caroline
Thatcher
Caroline
is a figurative artist based in Midsomer Norton near Bath.
She graduated from Bath Spa University last year in Fine
Art Painting, as a mature student, after a break from
painting of thirty years. This was a lifelong ambition
and an extremely enjoyable experience
Caroline enjoys painting people and works from old family
photographs and snaps that she has taken herself of family
and friends. These photos are used as a starting point
and are cropped or combined until she gets the effect
she requires to make an interesting composition. She also
works to commission and has painting individuals, family
groups and buildings of Bath. She paints in oil and acrylic.
Caroline
has exhibited in the Bath area in open exhibitions, including
The Bath Prize, Art for Life and The Mayor of Bath’s
exhibition. Her most recent work was shown in the Old
Bakery Artists’ exhibition at Rook Lane Chapel in
Frome.
One
of her paintings of a young child standing on a chair
was recently selected by a renowned panel of art critics
to appear in a London exhibition in March. Around thirty
works of art will be exhibited at the Royal College of
Art with 300 invited guests at the opening night. These
will include celebrities who collect art and gallery owners.
At the end of the evening, the art work will be sold by
silent auction. The whole process will be filmed for a
television programme called ‘Show Me the Monet’
which will run on BBC2 from the end of March 2011, for
ten weeks. Very exciting!
