I
was born in 1958 in the East End of London. In 1990 moved
down to Somerset to settle in the city of Wells after
a long secretarial career in the City and West End of
London.
Several years later in 2004 started to dabble with acrylic
paints as a hobby. After visiting an exhibition run by
The Old Bakery Artists in Radstock I decided to join them
and have not stopped painting since. I have exhibited
at many venues, shops, restaurants, galleries, hospitals
and have taken many commissions.
I would describe myself as a compulsive traditional/contemporary
artist who is totally self taught and is now working from
home part time to complete the commissions coming my way,
the latest being from the Mayor of Wells.
I have just converted my conservatory into a workshop
and enjoy working in oils, acrylics and pastels, my subjects
are very varied according to the mood of the day. My favourite
subject being portraiture. I love the atmospheric and
colourful works of W. Turner and R. Harris.
According to what mood takes me on the day I can add a
sense of humour to my paintings this way am able to experiment
with all subjects. At the moment I like to paint figurative
and am on the edge of glamour.
I like to make collages and also make textile sculptures
(which am selling through an outlet in Glastonbury)
TEXTILE SCULPTURES
The framework of each sculpture is hand-crafted and then
'dressed' with fabric creating an individual piece of
artwork.
The art medium used makes textiles rock hard and withstands
exterior weather conditions such as frost and heat making
them ideal for gardens and conservatories.
Each sculpture is seated on either wood, brick, stone,
logs, terracotta pots - they measure anything from 6"
to 30" in height and prices start from £25
up to approx £200 per piece they can be viewed at
Pixie Taylor , Market Place, Glastonbury.
