Helen
Charlton
Helen
came to Clandown, near Radstock, nearly 40 years after
her birth in North West Kent. Her teacher training course
and subsequent degree in Education consisted of, among
other subjects, art and craft. At that time, Helen developed
the technique and style that she began re-using when she
joined the Old Bakery Artists.
Helen
loves bright, shiny colours and combines ink, poster paint,
acrylics, pastels and anything else at thand to produce
vibrant work. Initially inspried by botanical sketches
and observation, helen has more recently used photos taken
while travelling in Asia and Eastern Europe to inform
her work. A current development is a move away from representational
work through experimenting with texture and colour to
produce pieces.
Apart
from college exhibitions nearly 20 years ago, Helen only
shows as a member of the OBA. 'Belonging to the group
has helped rekindle my creative pursuits to such an extent
that I now have a mini-studio at home'.
