Helen
Thompson
Helen’s
creative journey began with textiles but has progressed
into colourful mixed media collages, paintings and sculptures.
She likes to create work that cannot be completely comprehended
at a glance - the more you look into them the more you
see. She includes layers of texture and recycles old letters
and papers, giving a new lease of life to everyday ephemera.
Doors,
birds, flowers, and special places are favourite subject
matters. Words also play an important part - song lyrics,
proverbs and quotations are often incorporated into her
work. She is particularly inspired by colour and is always
on the lookout for unusual and exciting combinations.
Helen
uses a variety of media including acrylics, inks, emulsion,
crayons, pastels etc. and employs a number of printing,
textile and painting techniques.
She
has carried out a number of private commissions and sells
prints and cards of her originals. As well as exhibiting
with the OBA , she is involved in the One Craft Gallery
, a makers co-operative in Shepton Mallet where she lives.
