I
have been painting for as long as I can remember; my mother
is an artist and there were always paintings around the
house as I was growing up! After working full-time for
twenty years as a civil servant, I decided to work part-time
(for the Bath Chronicle) and this enabled me to take part
in several art and craft courses. After taking courses
in Embroidery, Stained Glass and Mosaics, I eventually
returned to painting. My main love of flower painting
steered me towards taking a botanical painting course
with Angie Girling, a very talented botanical RHS award
winner, who taught me the discipline of colour and painting
in layers with watercolours. I now belong to the Bath
Society of Botanical Artists, and we exhibit formal work
annually at the Podium in Bath.
I
have exhibited in and around the South-West of England
and in Dublin. My paintings have found their way to many
different countries including the U.S.A and Australia.
Although
I specialise in flora, I also enjoy painting landscapes
and other subjects. I have recently painted in acrylics,
the medium being a very different way of painting to watercolours,
but enjoyable nonetheless. The Old Bakery Artist Group,
with its alliance of artists gives me the opportunity
to try out and exhibit with different media.
