Sally
Gardiner
Sally
lives on a dairy farm just outside Bath and has a lifelong
interest in animals, especially horses and dogs. She creates
individual hand built pieces that portray some of the
character and attitude of farm and domestic animals.
After
a serious illness in 1998, Sally started OCN classes in
Ceramics at City of Bath College, and a major passion
came to the fore as she found making in clay very therapeutic.
She
then did a 2 year BTEC course at City of Bath College
in Design Crafts, which were glass, fine metals and ceramics.
Sally then decided to specialise in ceramics and went
to Bath Spa University and completed a BA(Hons) degree
in 3D Design: Ceramics.
All
Sally's pieces are hand built in stoneware clay. After
biscuit firing, she uses slips, glazes and oxides which
can be fired 3 or 4 times before the final glaze firing
at a temperature of 1250 degrees.
